Madonna visits Houston

On this Sunday, let’s take a look at some important Houston history. Madonna recently visited us for her Sticky and Sweet Tour. It was a great concert, but today’s video from her previous visit in 1990 during her Blond Ambition Tour must have been amazing. I say ’must have been’ because I have a long/sad story about what happened to my tickets on that fateful evening. Last week, DiverseWorks brought us Michelle Ellsworth’s The Objectification of Things. From the DiverseWorks site, ‘Too often ’things’ are dismissed as soulless or inanimate. To these familiar charges, Ellsworth reminds us that no person or animal has the reliability and predictability of most objects.’ I will never look at burgers the same way: Mission Accomplished!

The Objectification of Things is a National Performance Network Creation Fund Project.

Jade Simmons EPK

Pianist Jade Simmons drops her new CD, Revolutionary Rythm, tomorrow, March 24.

I have had a chance to hear Jade perform at Wade Wilson Art (where the video was filmed) and thoroughly enjoyed her performance. She will perform tonight at Rockefeller Hall, 3620 Washington Ave, to promote her new CD. If you get a chance, make sure to go out and support this great local talent!

Find out more about Jade on her website, jademedia.org.
